Woodlawn welcomes school tours and the opportunity to educate students about the rich heritage of the Downeast Region. As students tour the grounds and the 19th century house, and its original interiors, they can experience life in the 1800s while learning about the important role the Black family played in the development of Maine.
The staff is happy to work with teachers to make a tour of Woodlawn appropriate to the specific needs of students and to meet the requirements of the Maine Learning Results. All age groups are welcome. Tour lengths vary depending on the schedule of the students but generally, if possible, allow 30-45 minutes for the tour of the house and 30 minutes for a tour of the grounds. Tours are offered from May-October Monday-Friday starting at 9 AM. Please allow two weeks notice of desired tour date.
We request a ratio of two adults per ten children. There is ample space on the grounds for a picnic lunch. Call Woodlawn at 207/667-8671 or email Anne Russenberger Keefe, Director of Education and Programs at [email protected] to schedule your tour today.
